A current member of NKA, Janet has been teaching for 13 years and is one of 11 kindergarten teachers at Fairlane Elementary.

Her school serves students from a rural farming community in Lafayette, Tennessee. It is a K-1 school that is located in the middle of Tennessee.

In 2005 Janet was named Teacher of the Year in her school district. She enjoys writing grants to improve the learning environment for her students as well as presenting her ideas to other teachers.

She has had the opportunity to present some of her ideas at “I Teach K” 3 different times and at the “Frog Street Splash” once.  Janet is looking forward to presenting much more in the future.

Janet’s caring and busy life in the classroom is complimented by her family. She is a mother of 2 children, Hunter (9) and Hallie (5). The high school sweethearts,Troy and Janet, have been married for 15 years this March.

Each year we give students red balloons with their name and the school address tied to it.  We receive letters from people who find our balloons and post them in the front hall for all to see.

There are some advantages of living so close to Nashville - Music City

USA.  We had new country artist Jason Jones come visit our class and talk about

his music and the guitar.  

Music is a wonderful thing for children, I use it all the time.

I created story props to correspond with the book "The Little Old Lady Who

Was Not Afraid of Anything".  In this picture you can see my students

acting out the story.
